And on it goes!

Somehow this blog got itself our of order??? The one below this is more recent...

After a blissful day on Antisamos Beach we were the last to leave. Driving has a number of advantages, one of them being a lower consumption of house rose'...

All be it due to circumstance, we finally managed to get the Stoli's to stay on the boat. They had however left all their gear in the car because they had managed to get their old room back at the hotel for the following night....To hand it to Ron, he really felt that 8 people on the boat was too much for us and he'd rather let us have our space. Anybody thinking of joining us, we and the boat are quite happy with eight people and sometimes even more...

We got pizza delivered, fired up a movie for the kids and went out as adults for dinner then found a nice bar, close to the boat and watched some World Cup Soccer late into the night.

The following day we had planned to go to the highly recommended Scala Beach about an hours drive away. The Stoli's would install themselves back in the hotel and we would travel in convoy to Scala.... We lost them at the first turn and could not tell if they had gone ahead of us or not so we headed off solo. On arrival at Scala, we were underwhelmed. We drove around looking for the Stoli car, no sign of it. We concluded that they must be behind us after all, so we texted them saying we would head for Katelios which looked good when we passed it and it would save them coming all the way to Scala. Katelios was the place we'd attempted to dock at before having to return to Poros a few days earlier, it had looked quaint and we really wanted to check it out.

We got a message saying they had stopped at Metaxa beach. A quick look at the map revealed that this beach was less than half way to Scala?? Confusions reigned... We could not understand why they had changed the plan.

They were actually at a section of Scala Beach called Metaxa. They had got there before us and could not understand why we had turned around and headed off!

OK, so was it something we said? Was is something we did? Well, let's not let it spoil our day and we all did what we do on a beach and at a taverna... This activity was happening in sync at both Scala and Katelios...

Late afternoon and the Stoli's joined us in Katelios....After some fairly atmospheric banter the confusion was cleared up and things quickly got back to normal. We all headed home, the name Metaxa never to be forgotten. Greece was playing at 7:00pm and we wanted to get amongst the atmosphere of that in a bar in town somewhere.

At 7:00pm sharp the Stoli's arrived at the boat to announce that there was a black out and the entire town was in darkness. With generator running and all our lights on, we hadn't noticed but it did occur to us that the implications for Argostoli were shocking... Black out at kick off in a sudden death playoff for Greece... can you imagine?

Solution. Put our TV where the townsfolk could watch the game from the promenade...
Not a great shot, but this was the view from the shore when it was all over.
The local crowd quickly gathered, chairs were being brought from the bar across the road and our kids asked if they should charge for tickets.... Shortly thereafter the power was restored, the crowd dispersed with thanks and we moved over to the pub to watch Greece get eliminated....a real pity.
